Brenda Stone Browder, former wife of JL King, author of

 “On the Down Low,” speaks out about the Down Low

YELLOW SPRINGS, OH - Recently JL King, the man who came out with the book, “On the Down Low,” was featured on the Oprah Winfrey Show (10/7/10). The show revisited this alarming secret life - men who have sex with men. Brenda Stone Browder, King’s former wife was also featured on the show; the  discussion focused on where they are now in their relationship.

This timely featured show was interestingly aired while America hears of the accusations against Bishop Eddie Long, accused (allegedly) of coercing young men, while serving in the pulpit. Browder has continually stressed that the down low exist in all walks of life, including the churches. “Women need to know that they are not alone, and allegations are an indication that the phenomena still exists,” said Browder.

Brenda Stone Browder continues to share her story as she was the first one to expose her personal experience on a national level. No one can bring a better perspective to how this affects families than Brenda. She speaks candidly on her experience.  Browder has written her book, “On the Up and Up: A Survival Guide for Women Living with Men on the Down Low.”

On the Oprah  Winfrey Show , in 2004, JL King made “on the down low”-married men having sex with other men-a household expression, wrote about his life on the down low, and exposed his marriage to Brenda Stone Browder to the world (without discussing it with her or so much as giving her the book to read before he appeared on Oprah). Years of deception had led to him being found out and told to leave his home and family. He lied, putting Brenda’s life at risk, and breaking his vows.
